How many batteries do I need?

Take your daily energy use in kWh, divide by 0.85 to account for depth of discharge, then round up to the nearest standard battery size — usually 5.12, 10.24 or 15.36 kWh. Most three-bedroom homes land on one 10.24 kWh battery.

How to choose the right inverter

Choose an inverter by matching its kVA rating to your peak load plus a safety margin — not your total energy use. For most homes, that means a 3.5–5kVA hybrid inverter. Larger homes and small businesses typically need 8–10kVA.

Solar vs generator

A generator is cheaper on day one but fuel, servicing and replacement make it cost more than solar + battery within 3–5 years — before counting noise, fumes and late-night refills. Here's the comparison with real numbers.

How much solar power does a home need?

Most three-bedroom homes need a 5kW solar array to fully recharge a day's typical use. The real number depends on your daily energy consumption and average sun hours in your location — not the size of your house or roof.

What can a 5kVA inverter power?

A 5kVA inverter runs roughly 5,000 watts at once — comfortably covering a fridge, TV, lights, fans, washing machine and small AC together, as long as they don't all start in the same instant. Paired with 10.24kWh battery, it's our most common setup.

How lithium batteries work

Lithium batteries store energy by moving ions between electrodes — no moving parts, no fluid to top up, far less capacity loss than lead-acid. The LiFePO₄ chemistry used in solar systems is chosen specifically for safety and long cycle life.

Solar battery runtime

Divide usable battery capacity (kWh) by actual running load (kW) to get runtime in hours. A 10.24kWh battery at 90% DoD on a 1kW load lasts roughly 9 hours — but the real number depends entirely on what's switched on, not the box.

Solar maintenance

A well-installed solar system needs far less upkeep than a generator — mostly occasional panel cleaning, a yearly professional inspection, and keeping an eye on the monitoring dashboard. No oil changes and no fuel to buy.

Reducing generator dependence

Most households don't remove their generator on day one — they shift it from daily necessity to rare backup by covering normal loads with solar + battery first, in realistic stages that don't require betting everything upfront.

Solar warranties explained

A solar system carries several separate warranties — panels, batteries, inverters and installation workmanship are each covered differently, by different parties, for different lengths of time. Knowing which is which makes claims smooth instead of frustrating.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from customers in Nigeria.

How much does a solar system cost in Nigeria?
Cost varies significantly by system size, equipment selection and installation complexity. The right figure for your property comes from a written quotation after the free energy assessment.
Can solar replace my generator?
Solar + battery storage can significantly reduce or eliminate generator dependence. How much so depends on your current generator run hours, load profile and whether you keep the generator as an occasional backup.
Can I run air conditioners on solar?
Yes, when the system is sized accordingly. Running AC units need a professional load audit first; we confirm the correct inverter, battery bank and solar array in the energy assessment.
How long will my batteries last in the evening?
This depends on total load, battery state of charge and recommended depth of discharge. You can get an indicative estimate using the free Solar Calculator or 4-step Energy Assessment.
Can I spread payments with Rivy financing?
Rivy offers financing plans for qualifying customers. Subject to Rivy's eligibility and approval criteria.
What brands do you use?
LUMION ENERGY works with Jinko solar panels; Growatt Deye Itel inverters; and Deye Growatt LVTOPSUN Felicity lithium batteries — selected around your needs.
How long does installation take?
Residential installations typically take 2–4 working days; commercial and industrial projects are scheduled milestone by milestone.
Do I need to do maintenance?
Panels benefit from occasional cleaning; batteries and inverters are largely maintenance-free. Service contracts are available.
Can I monitor production?
Most modern hybrid inverters include manufacturer monitoring apps today. Future LUMION customer portal planned as a future feature.
What warranty comes with the system?
Each product carries its manufacturer warranty terms plus LUMION ENERGY workmanship support and LUMION workmanship warranty documented on warranty.html.
What happens in the free energy assessment?
4-step: Customer type → Appliances & audit → Contact details → indicative sizing results, followed by written proposal and optional site survey.
What happens when the sun doesn't shine for days?
Your battery bank covers evening use; most customers keep generator backup for extended cloudy weather can top up via grid (where available or generator (where available depending on design. An appropriately sized system and usage patterns scoped during the assessment.
